I want to talk about hashtags because in the last few months of 2022 there was a lot of talk about them, with most of it coming from a video posted by Adam Mosseri, who is the Head of Instagram, on his account @mosseri.
After this infamous video that mentioned hashtags, a lot of social media marketers really took it and ran with it. This quickly lead to a lot of misinformation going around which really hurt my soul, as it always does! I had a lot of business owners messaging me confused as hell not knowing what they were supposed to with hashtags, and I was as well in the beginning.
I saw people online starting to blame this “new update” on their engagement dropping 🤔 There are a few problems with this because it means that you are relying on hashtags for your engagement when they are used to get extra eyeballs on your post, not for engagement.
